The Future of Equity is a four-part mini-course designed for educators who want to move beyond surface-level conversations and take concrete steps toward building more just, inclusive, and responsive schools. Through candid discussions with leading educators, scholars, and advocates, participants will examine pressing issues such as curriculum violence, the persistence of the model minority myth, and the systemic barriers that undermine educational equity. Each session offers both powerful personal stories and practical strategies, whether it’s rethinking curriculum choices to honor student voice, disrupting stereotypes that harm students’ mental health, or fostering empathy, storytelling, and community partnerships as tools for equity. Together, these conversations call educators to action: to reflect critically on their own practices, to amplify diverse perspectives, and to create school environments rooted in love, representation, and belonging. This course provides both the inspiration and the tools to ensure equity is not an aspiration for the future, but a reality in our classrooms today.
Sessions include conversations with IEA Secretary-Treasurer Gina Harris, 2024 Illinois Teacher of the Year Rachael Mahmood, Illinois State Board of Education Member Laura Gonzalez and many others.
