Bridges of Opportunity - Asynchronous

Districts across Illinois are examining the transition from middle school to high school to ensure equitable opportunities for all their students. Bridges of Opportunity, brings educational leaders from across the country to examine the negative impacts of premature "ability" tracking. The last in person meeting of Bridges of Opportunity had 20 different districts represented, which serve over 160,000 students. The first session is from the Bridges of Opportunity Kick Off event featuring Dr. Carmen Ayala, former Illinois State Superintendent of Education, Gina Harris, Secretary Treasurer of the Illinois Education Association and a panel of classroom and administrative leaders discussing the importance of ensuring educational opportunity for students. The following sessions tackle how schools operate as sorting machines, how to provide the necessary systems of support to  begin detracking and how to implement differentiation strategies in detracked classrooms.
